These exhibition panels were delivered through a project Reece Harley was involved in led by Historic Heart in partnership with the Museum of Perth and Heritage Perth with funding from Western Power. Images were supplied by the State Library of Western Australia.
The “City of Perth Electricity & Gas Department” building at 132 Murray Street was opened in 1927 and has recently undergone restoration of its facade and shop-fronts. Until a permanent use is found for the ground floor tenancies, these panels provide colour and life to otherwise empty windows. They celebrate the history of various heritage buildings up Murray Street including the Government Printing Office (Curtin Business School Executive Education), Colonial Secretary’s Office, Young Australia League, Dfes Fire & Emergency Services Education and Heritage Centre, Royal Perth Hospital and St Mary’s Cathedral.
As you walk along Murray Street make sure you stop by the panels, and admire all of the wonderful heritage buildings that still remain.
