Summary
The Heritage of Australia: The Illustrated Register of the National Estate was published in 1981 and reprinted within four months.
It answered a need felt by Australians for information about places in the natural, Aboriginal and historic environment from which we derive our 'sense of place' and a significant part of our national character.
The Heritage of Western Australia draws from this earlier volume, and includes items added to the Register in the intervening years. It contains a detailed index for easy reference, as well as illustrations of many of the buildings and sites described.
The Australian Heritage Commission, which compiles the Register, has confirmed the authoritative text.
